Beginning with a few machine shops and foundries that were critical to materials research for the U.S. iron and steel industries in the 1930s, Battelle now owns more than two million square feet of laboratories in severallocations that perform cutting edge research in areas such as biotechnology, advanced materials, energy, and security.
